Storage/ Dowry bags from the nomadic Banjara tribe outfitted into pillows.

These utilitarian bags were originally made of block printed fabric in natural dyes with hand embroidered stitching, creating an overall quilted effect. The colors and patterns of these bags are symbolic of the Banjara community of Madhya Pradesh, India.

With most of our vintage pillows, we remain mindful of the artifact and choose not alter them wherever possible. A flap enclosure with ties has been carefully created to secure the insert without changing the original form of the bag.
